Purchasing Policy Agreement - We guarantee our chinchillas to be in top condition. If you have any problems with a chinchilla call within 24 hours for an exchange/no cash back. You must bring the animal back. We have our animals on the highest quality pellets, and hay available, which is not more expensive and probably less cost than pet shop feed. It is much better for the chinchilla. We can not be responsible for customers not following the guide lines and stressing out the chinchillas by handling them too soon and not letting them settle in. Please read all of the information on this web page and following the handling instructions. Call us with any questions you have in the future about your chinchilla. We are happy to help and want our customers to be happy and satisfied with their purchase.
BABIES CAN LEAVE AT 12 WEEKS OF AGE: When you have purchased your new baby chinchilla email me if you have any questions, concerns or if you just want an update on how they are doing. I will keep updating this web page with pictures and information on your new chin baby until they are weaned and you can pick them up. I wean the babies at 8 to 10 weeks and atleast 200 grams. Then I monitor them in their own cage to make sure they are eating and drinking well on their own and continuing to gain weight. After that they can go to their new home at 12 to 14 weeks of age. I keep them until 12 to 14 weeks because they are able to handle the stress of a new home much much better by the time they reach this age. I noticed it was too hard on chins younger than that and the babies well being will always come first above anything else. Don't hesitate to call or email, I can talk about chins all day long!
These prices are a guideline. Each animal is priced individually based on quality, size,
pet quality will be cheaper than show quality
Che' Chinchillas come with: a pedigree, starter packages of pellets, loose timothy hay, bath dust, care booklet, 1 year membership to the chinchilla club, a deluxe carrier and continued help from me for any questions you may have while raising your new babies.
IF YOU ARE BUYING A BUDDY TO PAIR WITH A CHIN YOU ALREADY HAVEYOU MUST DO THE 1 WEEK INTRODUCTORY PERIOD; IN SEPARATE CAGES SIDE BY SIDE FOR ATLEAST A WEEK BEFORE YOU PUT THEM TOGETHER. THEN PUT THEM IN A FRESHLY CLEANED CAGED WITH CLEAN CAGE ACCESSORIES. THEY MUST BE IN AN AREA WHERE YOU CAN KEEP AND EYE ON THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE GETTING ALONG. IT'S BEST TO PAIR CHINCHILLAS TOGETHER THAT ARE SIMILAR IN SIZE.
DO NOT BUY A CHINCHILLA THAT IS UNDER 8 WEEKS OF AGE.SOME BABIES ARE STILL NURSING PAST 8 WEEKS OF AGE. AFTER WEANING AT 8 WEEKS THEY NEED TO BE MONITORED FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 MORE WEEKS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE DOING WELL ON THEIR OWN AND CONTINUING TO GAIN WEIGHT. REMEMBER THESE ARE BABIES AND NEED TO BE TREATED AS SUCH. THEY NEED NAPS AND BREAKS IN BETWEEN PLAY TIME AND BEING HELD. THEY NEED TO STAY STRICTLY ON CHINCHILLA FOOD AND DISTILLED WATER.
DO NOT PUT A FEMALE YOUNGER THAN 8 MONTHS WITH A MALE.THEY CAN NOT PLAY TOGETHER UNTIL SHE IS AT LEAST 8 MONTHS OLD. SHE CAN GET PREGNANT IN A SPLIT SECOND, WHICH AT TOO YOUNG OF AN AGE CAN CAUSE DEATH, STERILITY, AND
UNHEALTHY OR STILL BORN BABIES
COLORS OF BABIES:ANY BABIES THAT ARE BORN MOSAIC (WHITE AND GREY, WHITE AND EBONY, TAN AND WHITE) WILL SOMETIMES START OUT DARKER PATTERNED, BUT AS THE BABIES GROW THE WHITE AREAS OF THE PATTERN GET LARGER MAKING THE BABY NOT AS DARKLY PATTERNED WITH MORE AREAS WHITE. TANS CAN TAKE 18 MONTHS TO REACH THEIR FULL DARKNESS OF COLOR. THEY ARE BORN LIGHTER AND THEN DARKEN AS THEY AGE. SOME ARE BORN A MEDIUM TAN AND THEN WILL LIGHTEN TO THEIR TAIL COLOR. EBONIES SEEM TO TAKE LONGER TO REACH THEIR FULL SIZE; UP TO 2 YEARS WHERE AS OTHER COLORS TAKE ONLY 1 YEAR. SAPPHIRES ARE USUALLY SMALLER IN SIZE COMPARED TO THE OTHER COLORS
*TOV or Touch of Velvet in the description refers to a more dramatic pattern in the color of a chinchilla; darker top, medium sides and a lighter or white belly. On white chinchillas the TOV can produce beautiful dramatic patterns of white, grey and black especially on the face. Many times a TOV will have a darker stripe on each paw. * A carrier gives you more possible breeding outcomes. For example if you breed a standard that is a sapphire carrier to another color that is also a sapphire carrier the mating could result in sapphire babies. If you breed a violet ebony carrier to another violet or violet carrier the mating could result in violets or violet wraps (one of my favorites; a beautiful solid deep rich violet grey all over including the belly) Breeding with ebonies can give you darker colors, darker patterns and solid color results called wraps. If an animal is a TOV or Touch of Velvet, and you breed it with another color it could result in TOV offspring. A black velvet is actually a TOV standard. A brown velvet is a TOV beige. A TOV White also called a black white cross is from a white and a black velvet. Black refers to Black Velvets not Ebonies. ANY BABIES THAT COME FROM AN EBONY MATING WILL USUALLY HAVE A DARKER BELLY. FOR EXAMPLE A BLACK VELVET EBONY CARRIER WILL HAVE A LITTLE MORE GREY CAST TO THEIR BELLY INSTEAD OF A SOLID WHITE BELLY.
DO NOT LET YOUR CHIN ROLL AROUND INSIDE A PLASTIC BALL: THEY DO NOT GET GOOD AIR CIRCULATION AND CAN BECOME OVER HEATED.
IF A CHINCHILLA GETS LOOSE STOOL PUT THEM ON LOOSE TIMOTHY HAY AND NURSERY OR FILTERED WATER ONLY FOR 48 HOURS. IF THAT DOES NOT CLEAR IT UP TAKE THEM TO A VET IMMEDIATELY TO RULE OUT ANYTHING SERIOUS. THEY CAN DEHYDRATE QUICKLY. DO NOT GIVE CHINCHILLAS PEOPLE FOOD EVER. .
NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 10 YEARS OF AGE.
CHINCHILLAS HAVE A DELICATE RIB CAGE AND CAN NOT BE SQUEEZED OR HANDLED ROUGHLY. 12 and above is the recommended age. Parents, this is a long term committment, chinchillas can live up to 10 years, sometimes even longer.
Please let us know in advance if you would like us to order a cage or cage accessories, feed, treats, pine shavings, etc. That way we can have everything ready for you when you pick up your baby chinchilla. WE DO NOT SELL TO PET SHOPS
Wanted to let you know that the little ones are doing great! They are growing and playing more. The still sleep lots but we are seeing more play too! They are eating and drinking great and LOVE their nightly oat treats. We have kept the same schedule for them. We introduced some things slowly for them and they are adapting great to their new home.
They are SO calm. Noises don't bother them, nor do people. We hold them everyday....hard not to as they pop out of the cage when we open the door. Chile has a special bond with my husband John. They just love each other so much. Shadow is still very active and curious, which we love.
We are so glad we got 2! They are great company for each other and groom each other too! We were amazed at how social they are with each other. It's been really fun to have them.
You did a great job encouraging them to be people friendly and we are thrilled to have chins that are so responsive at such a young age. We are truly enjoying them.
Susan, John, Jason and Brian
CHINCHILLLAS ENJOY BEING TOGETHER. They love to cuddle and nap with each other. They love to have their face groomed by another chinchilla. You can tell by the way they close their eyes and lift their head up when another chin is grooming them. In the wild they live together in colonies and are a social animal. At night when they are up playing around and you're sleeping they enjoy having a playmate. They love to use each other as pillows because their fur is so soft and they keep each other toasty warm. For these reasons from now on when you buy 2 chinchillas you will receive $25 off of the price of the second chinchilla. IT IS EASIEST TO PUT 2 BABIES TOGETHER THAT ARE SIBLINGS OF THE SAME SEX OR BABIES THAT WERE WEANED TOGETHER IN THE SAME CAGE THAT ARE THE SAME SEX. DISCOUNT NOT VALID WITH ANY OTHER DISCOUNT.

Picking out a cage for a baby chinchilla I would not go higher than 24" tall. Get a wide cage instead of a tall cage. Once they reach about 6 months of age a 30" tall cage would be fine as long as it has staggered shelves, hammocks, etc. Babies in a tall cage can fall and injure their ribs or teeth. If you have a tall cage you can section it off with cage wire.
Make sure to never spray can aerosols in the same room with a chinchilla. If the room smells because of the cage litter, clean it. Refrain from spraying "smell good" sprays. Never use Fabreeze near a chinchilla!
It's very important to only feed them the food recommended. No tap, softened or spring water. Use REVERSE OSMOSIS DRINKING WATER or filtered water only. I USE REVERSE OSMOSIS DRINKING WATER FROM WALMART IN THE GALLON JUGS. Chinchillas have tiny stomachs and if you want them to be healthy and live a long time you want them to eat mainly their loose timothy hay, pellets and alfalfa cubes. They do soooooooooooooooooooooo much better without all the treats. NO PEOPLE FOOD EVER. You are not spoiling your chin when you give it people food, you're are jeopardizing their health. Spoil them with "chew treats" like pumice, lava, untreated pine and willow, branch bites, cuttle bone. bird toys NOT "food treats" which are high in fat and sugar. Raisins are 70% sugar; it's like giving them a can of coke. Nuts are too fatty.
CLEAN WATER BOTTLES ONCE A WEEK WITH A BOTTLE SCRUB BRUSH AND SANITIZER , THEN SOAP AND WATER, RINSE THROUGHLY OR A DISHWASHER ON HIGH TEMPERATURE WASH WILL SANITIZE THE BOTTLE, BUT STILL RINSE THOROUGHLY. WIDE MOUTHED BOTTLES ARE EASIEST TO SANITIZE IN A DISHWASHER. THIS PREVENTS BUILD UP OF BACTERIA, ALGEA, ETC THAT CAN MAKE YOUR CHIN ILL.
Bringing a new chinchilla home is very exciting. Owners want to take them home, show them their new surroundings and love on them immediately. However, moving to a new environment is stressful, even on the most socialized chins. You need to allow time for the chinchilla to get used to their new cage and surroundings and they need to feel like their cage is a safe haven. There are so many new sights, smells and sounds, it can be overwhelming. The biggest mistake I see new owners make is taking a chin home and immediately beginning to take them out to play. Even if the chin seems to be calm it could be frozen with fear. They need time to settle into their own little safe world before exploring the big world of the new house. Do not handle them right away just feed and water them for a few days. Then put your arm in the cage and hold it still, be patient, let them come to you. Do not chase them. They will be scared at first, but are so naturally curious, once they feel safe they will come and inspect you. Keep your arm still. Do this for a couple more days. When they hop up onto your arm and crawl out of the cage on it, hold them for a few seconds and them put them back in the cage. If they do the same thing again then they are not scared and you can hold them again. If they get scared and want to go back into the cage, let them. Be patient and kind. Earn their trust.
Chinchillas are a prey species and as such may not show outward signs of stress until it is too late. Smells of other species, especially predatory species can be very scary to a chinchilla. You may not think Whiskers, your cat, is predatory, but the chin has no way of knowing this and will only go by what they smell. For this reason, I suggest that new owners give new chins a minimum of two weeks before taking them out for play time. This gives them time to feel comfortable and safe in their new cage.
You can bond with them and interact with them from within their cage. Let them approach you however, do not reach in and "grab" them. Do not chase them. Put a tiny pinch of oats in your hand and hold it still in the cage. They will be scared at first, but eventually they will come to you if you hold still. If they climb onto your hand, just hold still and let them inspect you. Please be patient and do not overwhelm them. Please do not chase them and over hold them. I promise they are worth the extra time. I know this is hard for new owners, however, it would be much harder if the chin were to end up dying due to the stress of his/her new environment. So please, give your new family member time to settle in.
A Lethargic Chinchilla
Chinchillas can go into shock from severe stress. The chinchilla will just sit still or fall over. If your chinchilla is lethargic, you can take him to the vet for a shot of Dexemethesone. This is a steroid that gets their metabolism going and should ease the symptoms of shock. It is sometimes necessary to administer a second shot, which your vet can send home with you. Chins have died from this condition, so do not wait long before acting.
If you bring a new baby chinchilla home and he/she falls to the side when they walk this can be from a drop in blood sugar due to stress. One treatment for this is to give them karo syrup or pancake syrup from a dropper. If this going to work they should perk up within 3 to 5 minutes.
Do not put your chinchilla cage on the floor. Chinchillas are a prey species and it makes them feel safer

First week give 1/2 raisin 2 times daily
1/2 raisin ONCE a week after that. After they reach 1 year, they can have a whole raisin ONCE a week. Keep an eye on their stool daily.
REMEMBER if they get mushy stool, stop all raisins and give loose timothy hay and distilled or nursery water only for 48 hours and that should firm it up.
Feed the feed from the previous ranch for about a week and then mix ½ and ½ with your feed to make a gradual change

HEAT CAN KILL. HAVE CAR COMPLETELY COOLED OFF BEFORE PICKING UP YOUR CHINCHILLA. CHINCHILLAS CAN HAVE HEAT STROKE AND DIE IN LESS THAN A MINUTE. COMFORTABLE TEMPS ARE 64 TO 72 DEGREES. ABOVE 75 DEGREES WITH HUMIDITY CAN BE FATAL, ESPECIALLY FOR BABIES AND PREGNANT MOMS . YOU MUST HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. A BASEMENT IS THE SAFEST PLACE ON HOT DAYS. KEEP A PIECE OF MARBLE OR TILE IN THE REFRIGERATOR TO POP IN THE CAGE ON HOT DAYS.
PLEASE GET YOUR CHINCHILLA CARE INFORMATION FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER NOT A PET SHOP. MANY PET SHOPS GIVE EMPLOYEES A 1 PAGE INFORMATION SHEET ON RODENTS IN GENERAL. CHINCHILLAS AND THEIR CARE ARE NOT LIKE ANY OTHER RODENTS. THEY WILL SELL YOU THINGS YOU DO NOT NEED OR THAT WON'T HOLD UP (ANYTHING PLASTIC CHINS WILL CHEW UP). SOMETIMES EVEN THINGS THAT AREN'T SAFE, JUST LIKE THE LARGE ROLL AROUND BALL. IT IS VERY EASY FOR A CHIN TO GET OVER HEATED IN THE BALLS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT GET GOOD AIR CIRCULATION. CHINS SHOULD ALSO NEVER BE KEPT IN A GLASS AQUARIUM OR BEHIND GLASS. THEY NEED A WELL VENTILATED CAGE. ALSO YOU WILL GET A HIGH QUALITY OF FOOD AND DUST FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER, PLUS AT A LOWER PRICE.
You can put a baby on hold for a 50% non refundable deposit.
Balance is to be paid for in full no later than the "ready date" of the chinchilla" or chinchilla will be relisted for sale and deposit is non refundable . Babies can not be put on hold until a deposit is received. Chinchillas must be picked up within 2 weeks of ready date unless previous arrangements have been made or baby will be relisted for sale and deposit is non refundable.
To keep a chinchilla's wheel from squeaking, rub a little olive oil or vegetable oil on the part of the wheel that connects to the holder. This will stop the squeaking for a while. If it starts again reapply the olive oil. Do not use anything else, especially something that is toxic. A chinchilla may lick the substance or get it on their fur.
