Baby chinchillas will be ready to go to their new homes 16 weeks after they are born, but can be purchased as soon as they are listed. Once payment is made it is non refundable unless the baby is no longer available. Full payment is to be received and cleared before the pick-up or delivery of the chinchilla. We accept paypal, money orders and cash. Send money order to address listed on contact page made out to Cheryl Graham. An appointment must be made to pay in cash. Do not send cash through the mail.
Purchasing Policy Agreement - We guarantee our chinchillas to be in top condition. If you have any problems with a chinchilla call within 24 hours for an exchange/no cash back. You must bring the animal back. We have our animals on the highest quality pellets, hay and supplement available, which is not more expensive and probably less cost than pet shop feed. It is much better for the chinchilla. We can not be responsible for an animal that is put on a low quality feed. You will be given a care booklet, a starter feed supply package and a list of suppliers. Call us with any questions you have in the future about your chinchilla. We are happy to help and want our customers to be happy and satisfied with their purchase.

When you have purchased your new baby chinchilla email me if you have any questions, concerns or if you just want an update on how they are doing. I will keep updating this web page with pictures and information on your new chin baby until they are weaned and you can pick them up. I wean the babies at 6 weeks and 200 grams. Then I monitor them in their own cage to make sure they are eating and drinking well on their own and continuing to gain weight. After that they can go to their new home at 16 weeks of age. Don't hesitate to call or email, I can talk about chins all day long!
Che' Chinchillas come with a pedigree, a care package of pellets, alfalfa cubes, and bath dust. Price also includes a care booklet, 1 year membership to the chinchilla club and a carrier.
A 50% minimum deposit is required to place a baby chinchilla on hold. Deposit is non refundable unless the chinchilla is unavailable due to injury, death, etc. If chinchilla becomes unavailable you will receive a refund of your deposit or a credit towards another chinchilla (customer's choice). Full payment on a baby must be received by the time they are 16 weeks old and is to be received and cleared before the pick-up or delivery of the chinchilla. We accept paypal, money orders and cash.
IF YOU ARE BUYING A BUDDY TO PAIR WITH A CHIN YOU ALREADY HAVE YOU MUST DO THE 1 WEEK INTRODUCTORY PERIOD; IN SEPARATE CAGES SIDE BY SIDE FOR ATLEAST A WEEK BEFORE YOU PUT THEM TOGETHER. THEN PUT THEM IN A FRESHLY CLEANED CAGED WITH CLEAN CAGE ACCESSORIES. THEY MUST BE IN AN AREA WHERE YOU CAN KEEP AND EYE ON THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE GETTING ALONG. IT'S BEST TO PAIR CHINCHILLAS TOGETHER THAT ARE SIMILAR IN SIZE.
DO NOT BUY A CHINCHILLA THAT IS UNDER 8 WEEKS OF AGE. SOME BABIES ARE STILL NURSING AT UP TO 6 WEEKS OF AGE. AFTER WEANING AT 6 WEEKS THEY NEED TO BE MONITORED FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 MORE WEEKS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE DOING WELL ON THEIR OWN AND CONTINUING TO GAIN WEIGHT. REMEMBER THESE ARE BABIES AND NEED TO BE TREATED AS SUCH. THEY NEED NAPS AND BREAKS IN BETWEEN PLAY TIME AND BEING HELD. THEY NEED TO STAY STRICTLY ON CHINCHILLA FOOD AND DISTILLED WATER.
DO NOT PUT A FEMALE YOUNGER THAN 8 MONTHS WITH A MALE. THEY CAN NOT PLAY TOGETHER UNTIL SHE IS ATLEAST 8 MONTHS OLD. SHE CAN GET PREGNANT IN A SPLIT SECOND, WHICH AT TOO YOUNG OF AN AGE CAN CAUSE DEATH, STERILITY, STUNTED GROWTH, AND UNHEALTHY OR STILL BORN BABIES
COLORS OF BABIES: ANY BABIES THAT ARE BORN MOSAIC (WHITE AND GREY, WHITE AND EBONY, TAN AND WHITE) WILL SOMETIMES START OUT DARKER PATTERNED, BUT AS THE BABIES GROW THE WHITE AREAS OF THE PATTERN GET LARGER MAKING THE BABY NOT AS DARKLY PATTERNED WITH MORE AREAS WHITE. TANS CAN TAKE 18 MONTHS TO REACH THEIR FULL DARKNESS OF COLOR. THEY ARE BORN LIGHTER AND THEN DARKEN AS THEY AGE. SOME ARE BORN A MEDIUM TAN AND THEN WILL LIGHTEN TO THEIR TAIL COLOR. EBONIES SEEM TO TAKE LONGER TO REACH THEIR FULL SIZE; UP TO 2 YEARS WHERE AS OTHER COLORS TAKE ONLY 1 YEAR. SAPPHIRES ARE USUALLY SMALLER IN SIZE COMPARED TO THE OTHER COLORS
*TOV or Touch of Velvet in the description refers to a more dramatic pattern in the color of a chinchilla; darker top, medium sides and a lighter or white belly. On white chinchillas the TOV can produce beautiful dramatic patterns of white, grey and black especially on the face. Many times a TOV will have a darker stripe on each paw. * A carrier gives you more possible breeding outcomes. For example if you breed a standard that is a sapphire carrier to another color that is also a sapphire carrier the mating could result in sapphire babies. If you breed a violet ebony carrier to another violet or violet carrier the mating could result in violets or violet wraps (one of my favorites; a beautiful solid deep rich violet grey all over including the belly) Breeding with ebonies can give you darker colors, darker patterns and solid color results called wraps. If an animal is a TOV or Touch of Velvet, and you breed it with another color it could result in TOV offspring. A black velvet is actually a TOV standard. A brown velvet is a TOV beige. A TOV White also called a black white cross is from a white and a black velvet. Black refers to Black Velvets not Ebonies. ANY BABIES THAT COME FROM AN EBONY MATING WILL USUALLY HAVE A DARKER BELLY. FOR EXAMPLE A BLACK VELVET EBONY CARRIER WILL HAVE A LITTLE MORE GREY CAST TO THEIR BELLY INSTEAD OF A SOLID WHITE BELLY.
DO NOT PUT A BABY CHINCHILLA IN A CAGE TALLER THAN 2 FEET HIGH. THEY CAN FALL AND INJURE THEMSELVES. BE CAREFUL IF YOU LET YOUR CHIN ROLL AROUND IN A PLASTIC BALL. THEY DO NOT GET GOOD AIR CIRCULATION AND CAN BECOME OVER HEATED.

Hi Cheryl,
Wanted to let you know that the little ones are doing great! They are growing and playing more. The still sleep lots but we are seeing more play too! They are eating and drinking great and LOVE their nightly oat treats. We have kept the same schedule for them. We introduced some things slowly for them and they are adapting great to their new home.
They are SO calm. Noises don't bother them, nor do people. We hold them everyday....hard not to as they pop out of the cage when we open the door. Chile has a special bond with my husband John. They just love each other so much. Shadow is still very active and curious, which we love.
We are so glad we got 2! They are great company for each other and groom each other too! We were amazed at how social they are with each other. It's been really fun to have them.
You did a great job encouraging them to be people friendly and we are thrilled to have chins that are so responsive at such a young age. We are truly enjoying them.
Thanks bunches!
Susan, John, Jason and Brian
Dear Cheryl,
Thank you so much for my chinchillas. They love their new cage. They love it so much that they climb up the sides of it. Dash even pushed Jack-Jack off of the ledge, but he was alright because the ledges are close to the ground. Dash is very adventurous, he was the first one to go through every toy I laid out for him. I atleast stayed up with them for an hour because I wanted to make sure they were comfortable in their new home. Thank you very much!
Love,
Allison
It is always better, for the happiness of your chinchilla, to buy them in pairs. They love to cuddle and nap with each other. They love to have their face groomed by another chinchilla. You can tell by the way they close their eyes and lift their head up when another chin is grooming them. In the wild they live together. At night when they are up playing around and you're sleeping they need a playmate. They love to use each other as pillows because their fur is so soft and they keep each other toasty warm. They handle a new environment and stress much better with a buddy. For these reasons from now on when you buy 2 chinchillas the second one will be 10% off. I care about my animals and want them to be healthy and happy. IT IS EASIEST TO PUT 2 BABIES TOGETHER THAT ARE SIBLINGS OF THE SAME SEX OR BABIES THAT WERE WEANED TOGETHER IN THE SAME CAGE THAT ARE THE SAME SEX. DISCOUNT NOT VALID WITH ANY OTHER DISCOUNT.

*When picking out a cage for a baby chinchilla I would not go higher than 24" tall. Get a wide cage instead of a tall cage. Once they reach about 6 months of age a 30" tall cage would be fine as long as it has staggered shelves, hammocks, etc. Babies in a tall cage can fall and injure their ribs or teeth. If you have a tall cage you can section it off with cage wire.
Make sure to never spray can aerosols in the same room with a chinchilla. If the room smells because of the cage litter, clean it. Refrain from spraying "smell good" sprays. Never use Fabreeze near a chinchilla!
It's very important to only feed them the food recommended. No tap, softened or spring water. Use distilled or filtered water only. No raisins for babies. Give a tiny pinch of old fashioned oats for a healthy treat that they love. Keep temperatures no higher than 72 degrees, preferably lower. Chinchillas have tiny stomachs and if you want them to be healthy and live a long time you want them to eat mainly their pellets and alfalfa cubes. They do soooooooooooooooooooooo much better without all the treats. NO PEOPLE FOOD EVER. You are not spoiling your chin when you give it people food, you're are jeopardizing their health. Baby chinchillas need to be treated like babies.
CLEAN WATER BOTTLES ONCE A WEEK WITH A BOTTLE SCRUB BRUSH AND SANITIZER , THEN SOAP AND WATER, RINSE THROUGHLY OR A DISHWASHER ON HIGH TEMPERATURE WASH WILL SANITIZE THE BOTTLE, BUT STILL RINSE THOROUGHLY. WIDE MOUTHED BOTTLES ARE EASIEST TO SANITIZE IN A DISHWASHER. THIS PREVENTS BUILD UP OF BACTERIA, ALGEA, ETC THAT CAN MAKE YOUR CHIN ILL.

AFTER MUCH OBSERVATION AND MUCH CONSIDERATION I WILL NOT BE RELEASING BABIES TO GO TO THEIR NEW HOME UNTIL 16 WEEKS OF AGE. THE MOVE FROM HERE TO A NEW HOME IS JUST TOO STRESSFUL FOR MANY OF THE 3 MONTH OLDS AND THE 4 MONTH OLDS DO MUCH BETTER WITH THE TRANSITION. THEY ARE STILL LITTLE BABIES AT 4 MONTHS OF AGE, BUT A LITTLE MORE HARDY. I KNOW IT IS HARD TO WAIT TO GET YOUR NEW BABIES, BUT WHAT IS BEST FOR THE BABIES MUST ALWAYS BE THE MAIN FOCUS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING. THE READY DATES HAVE BEEN UPDATED BELOW.

AMY'S GORGEOUS WILSON WHITE GIRL
Bringing a new chinchilla home is very exciting. Owners want to take them home, show them their new surroundings and love on them immediately. However, moving to a new environment is stressful, even on the most socialized chins. You need to allow time for the chinchilla to get used to their new cage and surroundings and they need to feel like their cage is a safe haven. There are so many new sights, smells and sounds, it can be overwhelming. The biggest mistake I see new owners make is taking a chin home and immediately beginning to take them out to play. Even if the chin seems to be calm, they need time to settle into their own little safe world before exploring the big world of the new house.
Chinchillas are a prey species and as such may not show outward signs of stress until it is too late. Smells of other species, especially predatory species can be very scary to a chinchilla. You may not think Whiskers, your cat is predatory, but the chin has no way of knowing this and will only go by what they smell. For this reason, I suggest that new owners give new chins a minimum of two weeks before taking them out for play time. This gives them time to feel comfortable and safe in their new cage.
You can bond with them and interact with them from within their cage. Let them approach you however, do not reach in and "grab" them. Do not chase them. Put a tiny pinch of oats in your hand and hold it still in the cage. They will be scared at first, but eventually they will come to you if you hold still. If they climb onto your hand, just hold still and let them inspect you. Please be patient and do not over whelm them. Please do not chase them and over hold them. I promise they are worth the extra time. I know this is hard for new owners, however, it would be much harder if the chin were to end up dying due to the stress of his/her new environment. So please, give your new family member time to settle in.
