You will need to get the following before bringing a chinchilla home:

cage  at least 24" x 24" x24" preferably 24"x36"x24" or larger

water bottle  $10

distilled water or nursery water

dust bath house (I use a glass cracker jar from Walmart $7)

pellet dish $6 or a baking ramekin at Walmart $3

pine shavings $10

medium dust pan to scoop out dirty pine shavings and scoop in clean pine shavings.

pellets, alfalfa cubes and loose timothy hay

chinchilla bath dust 2 to 3 times a week for their bath.  That's what keeps their fur clean and soft.

It is much cheaper to buy the pellets, alfalfa cubes and dust in 50 pound bags, but you can also buy them for a $1 per pound.

50lb pellets    $25
50 lbs alfalfa $25
50lbs dust      $20
3lbs loose timothy hay $6

I store the contents of each 50lb bag in a large plastic tub from Walmart with a lid.  The tubs are about $6 to $10 each and you would need 3

exercise wheel  $15

house to sleep in $20,

sleep n ledge shelf $10
